About JTEKT India Ltd

JTEKT India Ltd., formerly known as Sona Koya Steering Systems Ltd., is the largest manufacturer and supplier of Steering gears, Hydraulic Power Steering Systems, Manual Rack Pinion Steering Systems and Collapsible Tilt and Rigid Steering Columns for Passenger Vans and MUVs in India. JTEKT India hold a 20.47% Equity Stake of the company and its plants are located in Chengalpattu and Gurgaon Harayana. The company started its business in 1985 and had an annual capacity of 125000 Steering Gears and assemblies. Sona KoyaSteering Systems is the Market Leader in the Indian Steering systems category having over 50% share in volume terms and over 30% share in value terms. In 1988 it came out with a 23 crore public issue and in 199091 the Rear Axles Assemblies project was completed with a capacity to manufacture 50000 Nos. It became ISO9002 certified in 1991 and in 2003 it setup a new Division to develop a lighter weight collapsible steering column. JTEKT India acquired 21 stake in Fuji Autotech France in 2004 and a Joint Venture was formed with Fuji Kiko Co Ltd Japan, AAM International Holdings Inc. USA and Arjan Auto Private Limited India. In 200910 it commenced commercial operations with the manufacturing of Reduction Gear Assembly and later started mass production of Column Type Electric Power Steering System. It had set up two other plants at Uttarkhand and Singur for light axles under its JV with American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. In 2013, Sona Stampings Ltd. became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company and in 2017, JTEKT acquired a 25.12% stake in the company. Official operations of JTEKT Sona Automotive India Ltd and Sona Fuji Kiko Automotive Ltd started in 200910 and in 2019 the Scheme of Amalgamation between JTEKT Sona Automotive India Ltd and JTEKT India Ltd was approved by the National Company Law Tribunal NCLT. With the completion of the Open Offer, JTEKT Corporation Japan's shareholding in the company increased to a level of 70.45%.
