Sea Limited is no longer the speculative, loss-making pandemic stock investors bought near $373. It has become a profitable e-commerce, fintech and gaming group with $27.7 billion in trailing revenue. That is the good news.
The less comfortable truth is that SE stock has already rallied 53% from its June low, while profit growth is currently lagging revenue growth. The easy bottom-fishing phase may be over. From here, returns depend on whether Shopee can convert enormous transaction volumes into durable margins without Monee’s credit costs swallowing those gains.
Let's break down what Sea owns, why SE stock collapsed, what changed in 2026, how much growth is already reflected in its price, and whether the current level offers enough margin of safety.
We will also stress-test Shopee’s margins, Monee’s loan book, analyst targets and three possible 2027 valuation scenarios before taking a stand.
Sea Limited Stock Price History
Sea Limited shares closed at $123.32 on August 13, 2026.
| SE stock metric | Value |
| October 19, 2021 high | $372.70 |
| Latest price | $123.32 |
| Decline from 2021 high | 66.9% |
| June 11, 2026 swing low | $80.80 |
| Recovery from June low | 52.6% |
| 2026 low on March 3 | $77.05 |
| Recovery from March low | 60.1% |
| ~ Market capitalization | $75.5 billion |
Price data: Yahoo Finance, Nasdaq and Sea investor relations.
There is an important mathematical trap here. A 67% fall does not require a 67% recovery. SE stock must rise around 202% from $123.32 to revisit $372.70.
That old high should not automatically be treated as fair value. It was a price investors paid under completely different interest-rate, growth and profitability assumptions.
What Does Sea Limited Do? Shopee, Monee and Garena Explained
Sea Limited was founded in Singapore and operates three major consumer-internet businesses.
| Business | What it does | How it makes money |
| Shopee | E-commerce marketplace | Seller commissions, transaction fees, advertising, logistics and value-added services |
| Monee | Digital financial services, formerly SeaMoney | Consumer and merchant loans, payments, banking and insurance-related services |
| Garena | Digital entertainment and gaming | In-game purchases, game publishing and distribution |
Shopee is Sea’s largest revenue engine. Garena is its highest-margin cash generator. Monee is the fastest-growing financial engine, but also introduces credit-cycle risk.
That mix is what makes Sea unusual. It is part Amazon, part digital bank and part game publisher, operating primarily across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Brazil.
Sea’s Three Engines Are Running on Different Clocks
Investors often call Sea a “Shopee stock”. Financially, that description is incomplete. Here is how the three businesses performed in Q2 2026:
| Segment | Revenue | Revenue growth | Adjusted EBITDA | EBITDA growth |
| Shopee | $5.59 billion | 48.2% | $255 million | 12.2% |
| Monee | $1.40 billion | 58.9% | $288 million | 12.8% |
| Garena | $747 million | 33.5% | $430 million | 16.7% |
| Sea Limited total | $7.79 billion | 48.1% | $917 million | 10.6% |
Source: Sea Limited Q2 2026 results filed with the SEC.
Shopee contributed almost 72% of revenue, but Garena and Monee generated approximately 74% of the three operating segments’ combined adjusted EBITDA.
Adjusted EBITDA measures earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation and certain management adjustments. Think of it as measuring an engine’s output before financing and some accounting costs. It is useful, but it is not the same as cash available to shareholders.
The investment case should therefore be judged using three separate clocks:
| Engine | Metric that matters | What investors must establish |
| Shopee | EBITDA as a percentage of GMV | Can scale become real profit? |
| Monee | Bad loans and credit provisions | Is loan growth disciplined? |
| Garena | Bookings and paying users | Can Free Fire remain durable? |
Sea becomes a compelling compounder only when all three clocks continue working together.
Why Did Sea Limited Stock Fall From Its 2021 High?
1. Its 2021 valuation priced in near-perfection
Sea generated $9.96 billion in 2021 revenue and lost more than $2 billion.
Around its peak, its market capitalisation was roughly $209 billion, based on the share count at the time. That represented approximately 21 times annual revenue for a company with substantial losses.
Investors were effectively paying for a skyscraper while Sea was still showing them the blueprint. Once construction slowed and financing became more expensive, the blueprint lost much of its value.
2. Pandemic gaming growth proved temporary
Lockdowns benefited gaming engagement and online shopping. As economies reopened, Garena’s growth slowed sharply.
In early 2022, Sea guided for Garena bookings of $2.9 billion to $3.1 billion, compared with $4.6 billion in 2021. That destroyed the assumption that Garena’s cash generation would indefinitely fund Shopee’s expansion.
3. Shopee expanded faster than its finances could comfortably support
Sea pushed Shopee into several new markets, including Europe and India. The expansion required aggressive spending on discounts, free shipping, logistics and customer acquisition.
When investor priorities shifted from growth to cash flow, Sea closed or reduced operations in markets including France and India. Reuters reported Shopee’s India shutdown only months after launch.
4. India banned Free Fire
India blocked Free Fire in February 2022. It was not simply a regulatory inconvenience. Free Fire was Sea’s flagship gaming asset and India was a major market.
The episode reminded investors that digital platforms can lose market access very quickly when regulations change.
5. Tencent’s stake sale added selling pressure
Tencent sold 14.5 million Sea shares in January 2022, raising roughly $3 billion and reducing its ownership. SE stock fell more than 11% on the day of the announcement, according to Reuters’ reporting.
6. Interest rates crushed long-duration technology valuations
Higher interest rates reduce the present value of profits expected many years in the future. Since Sea was valued mainly on distant earnings, its valuation suffered more than that of mature, cash-generating companies.
By March 2023, Sea had lost close to 90% from its peak.
The Quiet Change: How Sea Limited Became Profitable After Years of Losses
Sea’s revenue did not collapse with its share price. Its financial model changed.
| Period | Revenue | Net income | Operating margin |
| 2021 | $9.96 billion | -$2.04 billion | -15.9% |
| 2022 | $12.45 billion | -$1.66 billion | -12.0% |
| 2023 | $13.06 billion | $163 million | 1.7% |
| 2024 | $16.82 billion | $448 million | 3.9% |
| 2025 | $22.94 billion | $1.61 billion | 8.7% |
| Trailing 12 months | $27.72 billion | $1.68 billion | 8.2% |
Source: Sea’s annual filings and full-year 2025 results.
Revenue grew at approximately 23% annually between 2021 and 2025. Sea recorded its first annual profit in 2023, and 2025 adjusted EBITDA reached $3.44 billion.
The stock is 67% below its peak, but the business is considerably larger and more profitable. In 2021, investors paid roughly 21 times sales for a $2 billion loss. Today, they are paying about 2.7 times sales for a company earning approximately $1.7 billion.
That is a genuine transformation, not merely a share-price bounce.
What Triggered the Recent Recovery in Sea Limited Stock?
SE stock’s 2026 rebound came in stages.
First, the stock plunged to $77.05 on March 3 after fourth-quarter earnings disappointed expectations and management indicated that it would continue reinvesting in logistics, users and credit growth.
Sea’s first-quarter results then reassured the market:
- Revenue increased 46.6%.
- Shopee GMV increased 30.2%.
- Monee revenue increased 57.8%.
- Garena bookings increased 20.1%.
- Net income reached $438 million.
Sea’s Q1 2026 results showed that reinvestment had not stopped the company from remaining profitable.
Then Q2 revenue grew 48.1% and management targeted approximately $1 billion of Shopee adjusted EBITDA for 2026. Sea also repurchased 4.7 million shares for $416.8 million during the quarter, at an average price of roughly $88.70.
That combination mattered: rapid growth, positive profitability, a clearer Shopee earnings target and a meaningful buyback.
However, Sea’s profit growth did not keep pace with its revenue growth.
Revenue increased 48.1%, but adjusted EBITDA and net income grew only 10.6% each. This happened because some of Sea’s major expenses grew faster than revenue:
- Sales and marketing expenses increased 64.5%.
- Credit-loss provisions increased 71.5%.
- Operating income increased 33.3%.
As a result, Sea’s adjusted EBITDA margin fell from 15.8% in Q2 2025 to 11.8% in Q2 2026. Put simply, Sea generated $11.80 of adjusted EBITDA for every $100 of revenue, compared with $15.80 a year earlier.
This does not mean Sea’s business is weakening. The company is spending more to grow Shopee, improve logistics and expand Monee’s lending business. However, the market is assuming that this spending will eventually produce stronger profits. Sea still needs to prove that this operating leverage will arrive.
Shopee: The Main Source of Future Upside
Shopee processed 4.2 billion gross orders in Q2, up 27.5%, while gross merchandise value, or GMV, increased 28.4% to $38.3 billion.
GMV is the total value of products transacted on a marketplace. Shopee does not keep that entire amount. It earns a percentage through commissions, advertising, transaction fees and logistics services.
Shopee’s monetisation is improving
Core marketplace revenue reached $4.26 billion.
Dividing core marketplace revenue by GMV produces an approximate monetisation ratio of 11.1%, compared with about 8.6% a year earlier. This is not Sea’s officially reported take rate, but it is a useful directional calculation.
The expansion came from higher commissions, transaction fees and advertising. Management said advertising revenue grew more than 70%, while the number of sellers purchasing ads increased approximately 45%, according to the Q2 earnings call.
Shopee is not merely processing more orders. It is earning more from each dollar of transactions.
But Shopee’s profit density remains thin
Shopee generated $255 million of adjusted EBITDA on $38.3 billion of GMV. That is an EBITDA-to-GMV margin of only 0.67%.
In simple terms, Shopee currently retains less than 70 cents of adjusted EBITDA for every $100 of products sold.
That small number is not necessarily bad. A small improvement multiplied across $150 billion-plus of annual GMV can create substantial value.
The Shopee margin sensitivity model
Shopee generated $127.4 billion of GMV in 2025. Management’s approximately 25% growth objective implies around $159.3 billion in 2026 GMV.
| EBITDA/GMV margin | Estimated Shopee EBITDA | Increase over $1bn | Indicative value/share* |
| 0.6% | $0.96 billion | Baseline | Baseline |
| 1.0% | $1.59 billion | $0.59 billion | $14.50 |
| 2.0% | $3.19 billion | $2.19 billion | $53.60 |
| 3.0% | $4.78 billion | $3.78 billion | $92.60 |
*Illustrative valuation using 15 times incremental EBITDA and approximately 612 million shares. It excludes taxes, timing, debt, dilution and changes elsewhere in Sea.
This is the most important Sea Limited stock model.
A move from a 0.6% margin to 1% could add nearly $600 million of annual EBITDA. Sea does not need Shopee to become a high-margin software business. It needs a small, defensible improvement over an enormous transaction base.
Is Sea Positioned to Capture the E-Commerce Opportunity?
Southeast Asia’s platform e-commerce GMV reached approximately $157.6 billion in 2025, up 22.8%, according to Momentum Works’ Southeast Asia e-commerce report. Shopee held an estimated 53% regional market share.
Sea’s advantages include:
- Roughly 400 million active Shopee buyers and 20 million sellers at the end of 2025
- Integrated payments, credit and logistics
- Leading positions across Southeast Asia and Taiwan
- A rapidly scaling operation in Brazil
- Growing advertising and live-commerce capabilities
More than one-quarter of Southeast Asian physical-goods orders already involve Shopee’s live-streaming or short-video content. This matters because content-led shopping increases discovery, engagement and advertising inventory.
Sea is also experimenting with AI-assisted shopping. It announced an agentic-shopping partnership with Google and made Shopee accessible inside ChatGPT across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Brazil through an OpenAI partnership.
These initiatives could reduce product-search friction and improve advertising conversion. But investors should not assign meaningful value to them yet because Sea has not disclosed a measurable financial contribution.
Monee: Sea’s Fastest Growth and Largest Emerging Risk
Monee’s revenue increased 58.9% to $1.40 billion in Q2. Its loans outstanding reached $11.1 billion, up 62.5%.
The reported 90-day non-performing loan ratio remained stable at 1.0%, which looks impressive. But credit-loss provisions increased 71.5%, faster than the loan book.
This is the most important yellow flag in Sea’s results.
Management explained that Brazil and off-Shopee lending carry higher interest rates and greater risk. Off-platform SPayLater loans now account for more than 20% of the portfolio, and considerably more in certain markets.
A basic stress test shows why credit quality matters:
| 90-day NPL ratio | Loans potentially over 90 days |
| 1.0% | $111 million |
| 2.0% | $222 million |
| 3.0% | $333 million |
These figures are not estimates of eventual losses. Some loans may be recovered, and Sea already carries substantial loss allowances. They simply show that every one-percentage-point deterioration represents another $111 million of troubled principal at the current loan-book size.
Sea reported approximately $1.12 billion in accounting loan-loss allowances at the end of June. That provides protection, but it also shows that the headline 1% NPL ratio should not be the only metric investors watch.
Garena: Still the Cash Cow, Still Concentrated
Garena’s Q2 bookings increased 15.5% to $764 million, while adjusted EBITDA reached $430 million. Its adjusted EBITDA equaled 56.3% of bookings.
Free Fire maintained more than 100 million average daily active users. Paying users increased 10.2% to 68.1 million, and the paying-user ratio improved from 9.3% to 10.2%.
The concern is that quarterly active users were almost flat. Growth came mainly from better monetisation, not a rapidly expanding audience.
Garena is developing games including Palworld Online and Monster Hunter Outlanders. If either becomes a major franchise, Sea’s gaming concentration could fall. Until then, Free Fire remains both a valuable asset and a single-franchise risk.
Sea Limited Free Cash Flow: The Cash-Flow Optical Illusion Investors Must Understand
Sea reported $2.56 billion of operating cash flow during the first half of 2026. Subtracting $495 million of capital expenditure produces approximately $2.07 billion of conventional free cash flow.
That calculation looks excellent, but it is incomplete.
Sea also used approximately $2.86 billion to expand its credit-loan portfolio. Because this appears in investing cash flow, a simple operating cash flow minus capital expenditure formula can overstate the cash available to shareholders.
| H1 2026 cash-flow item | Value |
| Operating cash flow | $2.56 billion |
| Capital expenditure | $495 million |
| Conventional free cash flow | $2.07 billion |
| Increase in credit loans | $2.86 billion |
Monee is partly a lender. Loans are inventory for a lending business. Ignoring the cash required to fund them would be like calculating a supermarket’s cash generation while excluding the money spent stocking its shelves.
This is why Sea should not be valued using a simplistic price-to-free-cash-flow multiple.
Sea Limited Balance Sheet Analysis
| June 2026 balance-sheet item | Value |
| Cash and cash equivalents | $3.53 billion |
| Short-term investments | $5.57 billion |
| Cash plus short-term investments | $9.10 billion |
| Borrowings and convertible notes | $2.22 billion |
| Simplified net liquid position | $6.88 billion |
| Gross accounting loans, approximately | $10.73 billion |
| Loan-loss allowances, approximately | $1.12 billion |
The $6.88 billion net liquid position is reassuring, but it should not all be treated as spare corporate cash. Part of it supports lending, regulatory requirements, deposits and day-to-day operations.
Sea has enough financial capacity to keep investing. It does not have unlimited room to ignore credit quality.
Sea Limited Stock Valuation: Is SE Stock Cheap
At $123.32, Sea is cheaper than it was in 2021, but cheapness depends on the metric.
| Valuation metric | ~ Value |
| Market capitalisation | $75.5 billion |
| Trailing revenue | $27.72 billion |
| Trailing net income | $1.68 billion |
| Price-to-sales | 2.7 times |
| Trailing GAAP P/E | 45 to 48 times |
| 2026 consensus adjusted P/E | 33.0 times |
| 2027 consensus adjusted P/E | 24.2 times |
The forward calculations use consensus adjusted EPS estimates of approximately $3.74 for 2026 and $5.09 for 2027, compiled by StockAnalysis using S&P Global data.
A 33 times forward multiple is not bargain-bin pricing. But it can be justified if Sea compounds earnings above 20% for several years.
The stock is no longer priced as if Shopee will fail. Nor is it priced as if Shopee will definitely achieve mature marketplace margins. That puts it in the uncomfortable middle: reasonably valued if execution continues, expensive if credit costs or competition worsen.
Sea Limited Stock Price Target: Three Scenarios
Instead of pretending there is one precise fair value, we can examine a range of outcomes.
| 2027 scenario | Adjusted EPS | P/E multiple | Implied value | Return from $123.32 |
| Bear case | $4.50 | 22 times | $99 | -19.7% |
| Base case | $5.10 | 29 times | $148 | 20.0% |
| Bull case | $5.70 | 34 times | $194 | 57.2% |
Bear case: $99
Shopee keeps growing but requires high subsidies and marketing. Monee provisions remain elevated, while Garena bookings slow. Investors reduce Sea’s valuation to 22 times earnings.
Base case: $148
Shopee maintains healthy GMV growth and gradually improves margins. Monee’s NPL ratio remains controlled, and Garena continues producing cash. The resulting valuation is close to the current analyst consensus.
Bull case: $194
Shopee’s EBITDA-to-GMV margin moves above 1%, Monee scales without a material credit shock, and Garena’s pipeline reduces reliance on Free Fire. The market rewards Sea with a premium growth multiple.
A probability-weighted 25% bear, 50% base and 25% bull model produces approximately $147 per share. That suggests around 19% potential upside, but with meaningful downside if execution weakens.

The wider consensus covers 29 analysts, with an average target of approximately $154, a $100 low and a $195 high. That represents about 25% upside from $123.32.
Sources: Analyst consensus, Benchmark’s post-earnings update and TD Cowen’s pre-earnings update.
The TD Cowen target predates Sea’s Q2 report, but it provides a useful bearish anchor. Analyst targets should be treated as scenario inputs, not promises.
Can Sea Limited Become a Multibagger?
Yes, but probably not because the stock simply returns to its old high.
At a 30 times P/E ratio, a $373 share price would require approximately $12.42 of annual EPS. That is 2.4 times the 2027 consensus estimate of $5.09.
To reach $12.42 by 2031, Sea would need to compound EPS at approximately 25% annually from the 2027 estimate. Extending the period to 2032 lowers the required growth rate to roughly 20%.
That is possible, but demanding.
Doubling from $123 to approximately $246 is more realistic. At 30 times earnings, it would require EPS of $8.22. That translates into approximately 13% annual EPS growth from 2027 to 2031.
The realistic multibagger thesis is therefore not “the stock once traded at $373”. It is:
- Shopee continues expanding faster than regional e-commerce.
- Its EBITDA margin gradually rises above 1% of GMV.
- Monee grows without a damaging credit cycle.
- Garena remains a durable cash generator.
- Sea avoids excessive dilution while reinvesting.
If those conditions hold for five to seven years, a multibagger outcome is credible.
Sea Limited Stock Risks: What Could Break the Thesis?
1. Shopee competition: TikTok Shop, Lazada, MercadoLibre and Amazon can force Sea to spend more on discounts, logistics and creators. Revenue growth means less if marketing expenses grow even faster.
2. Monee credit deterioration: Provisions growing 71.5% deserves attention. A sharp rise in NPLs could reduce profits and force Sea to retain more capital.
3. Free Fire dependence: Garena’s profitability remains concentrated around one major franchise. New games are promising, but commercially unproven.
4. Regulatory and currency risk: Sea operates in several emerging markets. Lending rules, digital-commerce regulations, game restrictions and currency movements can materially affect reported results.
5. Valuation risk: At roughly 33 times expected 2026 earnings, a modest disappointment can still produce a 20% to 30% share-price correction.
The Quarterly Sea Scorecard: Key Metrics Investors Should Track Every Quarter
Rather than watching the share price daily, investors should track these operating indicators:
| Metric | Healthy signal | Warning signal |
| Shopee GMV growth | Above 20% | Below 15% |
| Shopee EBITDA/GMV | Moving toward 1% | Below 0.5% |
| Sales and marketing growth | Slower than revenue | Persistently faster than revenue |
| Monee 90-day NPL | Around 1% | Above 2% |
| Credit provisions | Slower than loan growth | Faster for several quarters |
| Garena bookings | Positive growth | Two consecutive declines |
| Share count | Stable or falling | Buybacks offset by dilution |
This scorecard is more useful than asking whether SE stock is “up” or “down” after each quarterly result.
Is $123 a Good Level for Building Exposure?
My view is positive on Sea Limited, but not aggressively bullish on the current entry price.
| SE stock price zone | Valuation view |
| Below $100 | Attractive if the thesis remains intact |
| $100 to $115 | Good staged-accumulation zone |
| $115 to $135 | Fair value; starter exposure only |
| $135 to $155 | Much of the base case is priced in |
| Above $155 | Requires the bull case to materialise |
At $123, Sea sits in the fair-value zone. It is no longer a classic bottom-fishing stock after rising 53% from $80.80.
For an investor with a five-year-plus horizon and the ability to tolerate a 25% to 35% drawdown, a small initial position can be justified. A full position at the current price offers a less attractive risk-reward balance.
The two better opportunities would be:
- A pullback toward $105 to $115 without deterioration in operating performance
- Additional evidence that Shopee margins are improving while Monee credit provisions normalise
Sea Limited Stock: Final Verdict
Sea Limited is a better business than it was at its 2021 peak, but it is not a cheap stock merely because it remains 67% below that peak.
The transformation is real. Revenue has almost tripled from 2021 levels, all three operating engines are profitable, Shopee retains a dominant Southeast Asian position, and Sea has a strong liquid balance sheet. The margin opportunity inside Shopee alone could create billions of dollars of incremental value.
But the current numbers also show controlled reinvestment, not effortless operating leverage. Revenue grew 48.1% in Q2, while adjusted EBITDA grew only 10.6%. Credit provisions increased 71.5%, and Garena remains dependent on Free Fire.
Our conclusion is therefore clear:
Sea Limited is a credible long-term multibagger candidate, but SE stock at $123 is an accumulation-on-weakness opportunity, not a deep-value bottom-fishing trade.
A small starter position is defensible for high-risk, long-term investors. The more attractive risk-adjusted buying zone is below $115, with conviction increasing closer to $100, provided Shopee’s growth and Monee’s credit quality remain intact.
The biggest mistake would be buying solely because the stock once traded at $373. The right reason to own Sea is that Shopee’s massive transaction base, Monee’s financial ecosystem and Garena’s cash generation could collectively produce much larger earnings over the next five to seven years.
