In February 1984, Ross Freeman, Bernard Vonderschmitt, James V. Barnett incorporated Xilinx Inc., which went public on the NASDAQ in 1989. Its headquarter is in San Jose, California, United States, and presently managed by CEO Victor Peng. Currently, it is the leader and inventor among global suppliers of Field Programmable Gate Array (FGPA), programmable systems on chips (SoCs), and Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP). The company also provides training to customers, field engineering knowledge, designing related services, and technical support. Xilinx sells PLDs for electronic equipment manufacturers in end markets such as communications, industrial, consumer, automotive, and data processing. The company delivers effective technology enabled by the latest software tools that boost its innovation process across many industries. The company has invested in a data center, communications, innovative silicon design, machine learning, next-gen automotive, and edge computing. The employee strength around the world is approximately 4891 of the entity. Xilinx's 60,000+ customer base represents 51% of the entire programmable logic market. For the first time in 2019, the Annual Sales of Xilinx crossed $3 billion, up 24% from the prior fiscal year. Recently, AMD acquired Xilinx for $35 billion on October 27, 2020, and got the stockholder's approval on April 7, 2021. To structure FPGAs to withstand the damaging effects of radiation in space, the company had once engaged in a partnership with the United States Air Force Research Laboratory's Space Vehicles Directorate. In April 2021, Xilinx had collaborated with Mavenir to increase cell phone tower capacity for open 5G networks. The company has acquired a German software developer Silexica around June 2021.
