Diwali is just around the corner, and the buzz isn’t just about lights, sweets, or shopping sprees. On October 21, 2025, the stock markets will celebrate Diwali in their own unique way with the annual Muhurat Trading session. It’s that special hour when investors, big and small, make their first trade of the new Hindu financial year, Samvat 2082, hoping to start the year on a prosperous note. Think of it as a tiny festival within the festival, a mix of tradition, optimism, and a little bit of market excitement.

Let’s break down this blog to understand why Muhurat Trading matters, the timings for 2025, and how you can be part of this one-hour celebration of wealth and new beginnings.

What is Muhurat Trading?

Muhurat Trading is that one special hour on Diwali when the stock market joins the celebrations. Think of it like the markets lighting a diya of their own. The tradition started way back in 1957 at the BSE. The idea was simple yet symbolic: mark the start of the Hindu New Year with a trade, inviting prosperity and good fortune.

Over the years, it became a nationwide ritual. The NSE jumped in, and now even if you’re sitting at home with your laptop, you can take part in this festive moment. The charm of Muhurat Trading isn’t about making a big profit; it’s about the symbolism, buying a share or shares, saying a little prayer, and setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

The term "Muhurat" means an auspicious moment, and trading during this time is believed to bring good fortune. Investors often use this opportunity to buy a symbolic share or make a small investment, setting a positive tone for the year ahead. The session is not just about financial transactions; it's a blend of cultural rituals and modern investment practices, making it a unique event in the Indian financial calendar.

Significance of Muhurat Trading

Muhurat Trading isn’t just about charts, tickers, and numbers, it’s Diwali spilling into the stock market. Imagine your office desk or personal trading desk lit up with a little diya while you click “Buy” on your first share of the new financial year, Samvat 2082. That’s the spirit of it.

Traders and families come together, sometimes saying a small prayer or doing a quick puja, asking Goddess Lakshmi to bless the year’s investments. Even picking up a single share is enough, it’s the intention that counts, not the size of the trade.

It’s a little ritual that turns the stock market into a festive moment, reminding us that finance and tradition can dance together. A tiny trade, a little puja, and suddenly, the year ahead feels full of hope and good vibes.

Common Myths & Misconceptions Around Muhurat Trading

Despite its popularity, Muhurat Trading is often surrounded by myths:

  • “Trading only during Muhurat guarantees profit”: Not really, it’s a symbolic start, not a financial shortcut. Market risks always remain.
  • “Big investments are required”: Even a small token investment is enough to participate and seek blessings. Muhurat trading is about the gesture around the cultural significance.
  • “Missing Muhurat Trading is unlucky”: Just as not eating sweets is not unlucky as such, neither is missing the muhurat trading. You can invest at any time; the auspiciousness lies in the intention, not the exact minute.

Knowing the facts helps investors enjoy the festival without stress, making Muhurat Trading a joyful, informed experience rather than a superstitious gamble.

How to Participate in Muhurat Trading

Participating in Muhurat Trading is simple:

  1. Choose a Stock: Select a stock or investment that aligns with your financial goals.

  4. Festive Bonus: This Diwali, you can make your Muhurat trade even more special on INDmoney — enjoy Zero Brokerage on all Equity, MTF, and Intraday orders during the Muhurat session.
