Margins and EPS

Operating margin has decreased in Jul-Sep quarter to 36% compared to 32% in the same quarter last year. Adjusted EPS per share stood at $3.2 in line with analyst estimates of $3.19 per share.


In Q3 Facebook's revenue grew by 35% YoY to $29 billion, vs. $29.57 billion as expected by analysts. The company pointed to a 33% rise in ad revenue to $28.3 billion, along with a 9% increase in the number of ads it delivered. Average revenue per user (ARPU) was at $10.

Active Users

Facebook has reported Daily active users (DAUs) of 1.93 billion and Monthly active users (MAUs) of 2.91 billion, a 6% on year rise in both and in line with analysts estimates.


Q3 total expenses were $18.6 billion, up 38% compared to last year. In terms of the specific line items: cost of revenue increased 38% driven by consumer hardware costs, payments partners, and core infrastructure investments.


Second-quarter operating income saw a sharp rise YoY, to $10.4 billion, representing a 36% operating margin. Net income also rose by 17.2% YoY $9.2 billion compared to $7.8 billion in the previous year quarter. They expect the investment in Facebook Reality Labs to reduce our overall operating prot in 2021 by approximately $10 billion


Free cash flows stood at $8.5 billion. Facebook repurchased $7.1 billion of Class A common stock in the second quarter, and ended the quarter with $64.1 billion in cash and marketable securities.

Share repurchases

Facebook repurchased $14.37 billion of its Class A common stock in the third quarter and had $7.97 billion remaining on its prior share repurchase authorization as of Sept 30. They also announced a $50 billion increase in its share repurchase authorization.
