What is the NIFTY 50 option chain?

The NIFTY 50 option chain is a live table of all call (CE) and put (PE) options across strike prices for NIFTY 50, showing price, open interest, change in OI, and volume for each strike and expiry on NSE.

How do I read the NIFTY 50 option chain?

Calls and puts sit on either side of the strike prices. The strike nearest the current NIFTY 50 level is at-the-money. High open interest at a call strike can act as resistance and at a put strike as support, while volume shows where today's trading is concentrated.

What is the lot size and expiry for NIFTY 50 options?

NIFTY 50 options trade in lots of 65 units with weekly and monthly expiries on NSE. Contracts are cash settled in INR at expiry. Weekly contracts expire every Tuesday.

What is the difference between a call and put option on NIFTY 50?

A call (CE) gains value when NIFTY 50 rises — buyers position for an up-move. A put (PE) gains value when NIFTY 50 falls — buyers position for a down-move or hedge an existing position. The most an option buyer can lose is the premium paid.

What does open interest mean in the NIFTY 50 option chain?

Open interest is the total number of outstanding contracts at a strike. Rising OI means positions are being added; falling OI means they are being unwound. High put OI at a strike often acts as support; high call OI often acts as resistance.
