TVS Motor reported record revenue of ₹17,103 crore in Q2 FY27, up 44% year-on-year, while profit jumped 52%. However, vehicle sales volume increased by only 27%, suggesting that revenue growth was not driven by higher volumes alone.
Electric vehicle sales more than doubled, exports remained strong, and operating margins improved slightly. But can TVS Motor maintain this growth as electric vehicles become a bigger part of its business?
TVS Motor Q2 Results: Revenue and Profit Hit Record Highs
TVS Motor reported strong financial performance in Q2 FY27, supported by record vehicle sales and higher operating earnings.
| Financial Metric | Q2 FY26 | Q2 FY27 | YoY Growth |
| Revenue | ₹11,905 crore | ₹17,103 crore | 44% |
| Operating EBITDA | ₹1,507 crore | ₹2,219 crore | 47% |
| Profit After Tax | ₹904 crore | ₹1,377 crore | 52% |
| EBITDA Margin | 12.7% | 13.0% | Up 30 bps |
| Vehicle Sales | 15.07 lakh | 19.19 lakh | 27% |
The interesting part is that profit grew faster than revenue, while revenue grew faster than vehicle sales. This suggests that TVS Motor benefited from more than just selling additional vehicles.
Why Is TVS Motor's Revenue Growing Faster Than Sales?
TVS Motor's vehicle sales increased 27%, but revenue grew 44%. This difference suggests that the company generated more revenue relative to the number of vehicles sold.
Based on reported revenue and vehicle volumes, implied revenue per vehicle increased from approximately ₹79,000 to ₹89,000, a rise of around 13%.
This is not the company's reported average selling price, as revenue also includes other operating activities.
A shift towards higher-value motorcycles, scooters and electric vehicles could be contributing to the improvement. However, the company has not provided a product-wise revenue breakdown to confirm their individual contributions.
For investors, the key question is whether this higher revenue per vehicle can continue and translate into stronger profitability.
EV Sales Jump 133%, Becoming a Bigger Growth Driver
Electric vehicles were among the fastest-growing parts of TVS Motor's business during Q2 FY27.
EV sales increased from 80,009 units to 1,86,186 units, representing growth of 133%. This was significantly higher than the company's overall vehicle sales growth of 27%.
Based on reported volumes, electric vehicles accounted for approximately 10% of total two-wheeler sales, compared with around 5.5% a year earlier.
The growth also reflects TVS Motor's expanding electric scooter portfolio. Its iQube has crossed one million units, while the Orbiter has reached the 100,000-unit milestone.
However, the company has not separately disclosed EV profitability. Therefore, while volumes are growing rapidly, it remains unclear how much profit the electric vehicle business contributes.
Scooters and Exports Support Overall Growth
TVS Motor recorded growth across all major vehicle categories during the quarter.
Motorcycle sales increased 28% to 8.58 lakh units, while scooter sales grew 29% to 8.25 lakh units. Three-wheeler sales also increased 47% to 78,475 units.
International business volumes grew 35% to approximately 5 lakh units.
This broad-based growth is important because it shows that TVS Motor is expanding beyond a single product category.
However, sustaining overseas growth will depend on market demand, competition and operating costs.
Profit Grew 52%, But Margins Improved Only Slightly
Despite revenue growing 44% and operating EBITDA increasing 47%, TVS Motor's EBITDA margin improved by only 30 basis points, from 12.7% to 13%.
This means the company generated approximately ₹13 in operating EBITDA for every ₹100 of revenue, compared with ₹12.70 a year earlier.
The figures suggest that higher sales and revenue were the main drivers of operating profit growth, rather than a large improvement in margins.
This distinction matters because continued growth in revenue may not result in equally strong profit growth if operating costs increase.
For investors, the important question is whether TVS Motor can improve margins further as vehicle volumes and EV sales expand.
What Should TVS Motor Investors Track?
TVS Motor has delivered strong quarterly growth, but its sustainability will depend on a few important factors.
EV profitability: Electric vehicle sales increased 133%, but their individual contribution to profits remains unclear. Improving profitability as EV volumes grow will be important.
Revenue per vehicle: Revenue grew faster than sales volumes. Investors should track whether a favourable product mix can sustain this difference.
Operating margins: EBITDA margin improved by just 30 basis points. Further margin expansion would indicate that higher sales are translating into better operating profitability.
International business: Overseas sales grew 35%. Maintaining this momentum could provide another growth opportunity beyond the Indian market.
Author's Take
TVS Motor's Q2 FY27 results show strong growth across revenue, profits and vehicle sales. Electric vehicles are becoming a more important part of the business, while scooters and exports continue to support volumes.
However, the most interesting development is that revenue increased much faster than vehicle sales, while operating margins improved only slightly.
For investors, the next phase of TVS Motor's growth will depend not just on selling more vehicles, but also on generating higher profits from those sales.
The company has demonstrated strong demand. The next test is whether it can sustain that growth while improving profitability.
