Rajasthan Petro Synthetics (RSPL) is a major Indian manufacturer of polypropylene yarn, and since 1987, using technical collaborations with Core Engineering Switzerland, Scam Engineering and STP Impianti Italy, has increased its polypropylene multifilament yarn (PPMFY) production capacity to 2750 tons per annum. PPMFY is used in industrial applications such as filter fabrics, soft luggage fabrics, narrow width fabrics, tapes, straps, and sewing threads. RSPL has also recently promoted a new company, Poddar Pigments, to produce pigmentbased polypropylene masterbatches as an import substitute. Furthermore, RSPL is expanding its capacity for polypropylene partially oriented yarn (PPPOY) and setting up facilities to manufacture microdenier polyester filament yarn (MDPFY), imported from Neumag Germany and Noy Val Lasina Switzerland, which is commonly used in premium hosiery, neckties, leather substitutes and ultrasuede due to its superior quality in terms of softness, drape and appearance. In the 199596 period, the company increased its installed capacity of polyester filament yarn to 4500 tonnes per annum and earned foreign exchange worth Rs 98 lac, and the 199697 period saw even higher earnings of Rs 1.21 crores.
