About Kinetic Engineering Ltd

Kinetic Engineering Limited (KEL) is an Indian automotive manufacturer established in 1970 as a private company by founders N K Firodia and H K Firodia. It became a public limited company in 1975, and is best known for producing the Luna brand of mopeds and scooters based on the latest technology sourced from the Honda Motor Company. In 1992, KEL developed a unique colour television set based on digital technology, and in 1995 they introduced the Kinetic Merlin TVKomtutor, a TV-Computer- Hi-Fi Stereo combo. They developed the 73cc Pride in 1994, and currently produce four models: Luna Spark Safari, and Pride. In 1998, they raised their stake in the Kinetic Honda Motor Ltd. (KHML) to 70%. In addition to auto components, they have also ventured into producing car with 500cc priced at Rs 1.25 lacs. The business related to electronics is spun off into Kinetic Communications Ltd, while a new company, Kinetic Transportation Products Ltd., was formed to deal with elevators, escalators, and automated parking garages. KEL has also launched the new Kinetic Challenger motorcycle in 2000-2001, with features such as lean-burn engine technology for fuel efficiency, resonator induction for excellent pick-up and low noise. For three consecutive years since 1997 (1997900), KEL has received the Export Excellence Award from the Engineering Export Promotion Council, and for 1998 KEL’s Koregaon Bhima factory has won the Lowest Accident Frequency Rate Award from the National Safety Council.
