About Sportking India Ltd

Sportking India was founded in 1989 by Raj Kumar Avasthi and his family as a hosiery knitwear and readymade garments business at New Delhi. Due to labour shortage, the company stopped its operations in 1993-1994. It then diversified operations by installing 6520 spindles at Meharban, Ludhiana, Punjab, which started commercial production on 3 December 1993. To expand its operations even further in 1995, the company decided to set up a new spinning unit with a capacity of 25000 spindles for the manufacture of acrylic/synthetic yarn at Kanech, Punjab. To finance this project, Sportking India launched a public issue in December of 1995.
