About Surat Trade & Merchantile Ltd

Surat Textile Mills (STML, formerly known as Garden Cotton and Yarn) was incorporated in 1945 and is a leading manufacturer of yarn and cloth. The company operates three plants in Surat, Gujarat, and has undertaken several expansion and modernisation initiatives. In 1995, STML issued rights shares and raised capital through privately-placed debt to finance a 25,200-spindle expansion project with an installed capacity of 17,500 tonnes per annum (TPA) of Polyester Filament Yarn (PFY). Additionally, a polycondensation unit was commissioned in the same year, and later, a yarn doubling and grassing project was commissioned at the company’s Silvassa facility. Lastly, in 1998, a 12,384-spindle synthetic fibre plant was added in Vareli, and completed the company’s expansion initiatives.
