About Standard Batteries Ltd

Standard Batteries Limited (SBL) was founded in 1945 and is part of the Williamson Magor Group. They have 3 manufacturing plants located in Mumbai, Chennai and Madras. They collaborate with well known brands like Furukawa Battery Company (Japan), Oldham (France), Oldham Batteries (UK) and Hagen Batterie (Germany). SBL manufactures different types of batteries for automotive, industrial and submarine applications, along with miners caplamps. They are the primary supplier of submarine batteries to the Indian Navy. Some of their leading clients include Maruti Udyog and multinational telecom companies such as Ericsson, Alcatel, ATT and Siemens. To ensure quality and productivity, the company is relocating their Mumbai plant to Taloja with new machinery. In 1998, the company sold their entire battery business to Exide Industries Limited.
