About Shree Karthik Papers Ltd

Shree Karthik Papers Limited (SKPL) was incorporated in December 1991, originally to manufacture writing and printing paper in the Kottur Pollachi Taluk District of Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. After discussions with suppliers and consultants, the original planned capacity of 8480 tons per annum (tpa) was revised to 13350 tpa and the project was appraised by the IDBI in May 1992, costing Rs 1276 lakhs. SKPL commenced its commercial production in February 1995 after a successful public issue in December 1994 that got over 10 times subscription. The company has now planned to produce newsprint as well. In 1999, the company declared itself a 'sick' and BIFR appointed IDBI as the operating agency to work on rehabilitating the company. BIFR sanctioned a scheme that involved writing down of paid up capital by 50%, induction of fresh capital of Rs 600 lakhs by promoters and conversion of interest due to IDBI of Rs 50 lakhs to equity. After implementation of BIFR's directions, the company's paid up capital was 955.50 lakh, with 19110000 equity shares of Rs 5 each.
