About Shree Digvijay Cement Co. Ltd

Shree Digvijay Cement (SDCL) was established in 1949 and manufactures cement under the trade name 'Lotus'. The company also manufacturers asbestos cement pipes and sheets and boasts ISO 9002 certification for its Digvijaygram unit. It began amalgamation of Hastings Mills at Rishra, West Bengal in 1982, which consists of a jute mill, a synthetic fabric division and a coir and felt division - the synthetic division closed in 1986. Rubberised coir products are sold under the brand name Rilaxon. Following a scheme of arrangement in 1994-95, four divisions were assigned to Gujarat Composites along with investments in Shree Synthetics and Fort William Company. Equity shares in GCL and DFL capital were allotted to members in proportion of 1:3 and 1:2 respectively, leading to Laxmi Asbestos Products Ltd., Indian Textile Agency Ltd. and Shree Rubcoir Mattresses P Ltd. ceasing to be subsidiaries of the company. Three captive power plants generating 18MW of capacity were installed in 1998-99, after which the company declared ‘sick industrial company’ status in 1999-2000 with ICICI appointed as operating agency. Finally, in 2000-01, a modernisation programme enabled installation of pre-grinding system for the cement mill, concluding the process.
