About Oriental Hotels Ltd

The Reddy Group's South India Oriential Hotels entered into a technical assistance and operating contract with Indian Hotels Company (IHC) in 1974. This led to the inauguration of the Taj Coromandel, their flagship hotel, complete with 224 guest rooms. The company also signed a contract for Covelong Beach Hotels in India (1985) and Emboodhu Finolhu Island Resort in Maldives (1985). In the late 1980s, they took on lease the Malabar Hotel in Cochin which was renovated and opened in 1986 and acquired a controlling stake in Coromandel Hotels in the mid-90s (1995). The Executive Plaza Hotel (Chicago, USA) was sold in 2000 as part of a restructuring exercise and OHL HK plans to invest in St. James Court Hotel London, Taj Lanka Resorts (Sri Lanka) and Taj Maldives Pte. Ltd (Maldives). Upgrade and modernisation of all its hotels has taken place throughout the years. Recently the heritage wing at Luxury Resort Hotel Taj Malabar has been refurbished and a new Thai restaurant is offered. The Amalgamation of Orient Holdings Ltd and Fishcove Leasing and Investment Ltd with the company in 2002 was approved by the Honble High Court of Judicature at Madras.
