About Liberty Shoes Ltd

Liberty Shoes Limited (LSL) was incorporated in 1986 as a public limited company that specializes in the manufacturing and selling of leather and nonleather shoes, leather shoe uppers, and leather garments. In 1991, LSL embarked on a joint venture to manufacture shoes and, in 1995, discontinued it. To fund the project to manufacture 6 lakh pairs of leather shoes and 9.6 lakh pairs of nonleather shoes, LSL floated their first public issue at a premium of Rs. 89. In December 1993, their commercial production of nonleather shoes began and the Liberty brand has gained 32% of the market share in the leather footware category.

The company has implemented various measures to ensure high-quality speciality sports shoes of international standards, such as upgrading manufacturing facilities and opening premier mega leather goods stores in major cities of India. The company has also entered into a marketing agreement with Delta International Schuhmode, giving them the opportunity to export shoes to Germany. In 19992000, ICRA awarded them A1 (highest safety rating) for their commercial paper. Additionally, the company has launched a backward integration project to manufacture EVA copolymers for import substitution which would help save foreign exchange. The first phase of the company's SAP implementation project in 200001 has been completed and the second phase is expected to be completed in the current year.
