About Jay Shree Tea & Industries Ltd

Jay Shree Tea and Industries (JSTI) was incorporated in 1945 as Jay Shree Tea Gardens with an initial paid-up shares of 7.86 lacs, increasing to 39.05 lacs by 1947. The company was promoted by B K Birla and operates 12 tea gardens in Assam, West Bengal, Tamilnadu and Kerala that are packed and sold under the brand names of Sadabahar, Shaandar and Sangam. JSTI has operations in various industries like manufacturing plywood, superphosphates, sulphuric acid, real estate development, shipping, tubes and tyres. With the acquisition of Maitrayee Tea Project and Aryaman Tea Estate with 192 acres in Jalpaiguri in 1999-2000, the shareholding by B K Birla group rose to 44.61 in June 2000 following completion of a buy back offer. The company bought back 12.3 lacs equity shares and its total share capital as on March 2002 was 10.67 crores. In 2002, the 100% subsidiary called Shivas Group Ltd was merged with JSTI with prior shareholder approval. The company is proposing to set up an international call centre in Kolkata and delist its shares from Delhi Stock Exchange due to lack of transactions. In an effort to expand its products and services, JSTI is also setting up a tea processing factory in Ledo, Assam with a capacity of 6 lacs kg and is under suspension in Andamans and Nicobar Islands.
