About Gayatri BioOrganics Ltd

Gayatri Starchkem Ltd., formerly known as Starchem Industries Ltd., was established on 2 Dec.91. This company is in the business of the manufacture of sorbitol with an installed capacity of 8550 tpa. Lurgi Oil Gas Chemie Germany provides the technical know-how to the company which uses low-pressure hydrogenation technology for its production. Sorbitol, which is more resistant to bacterial degradation than sugar, is used in multiple industries such as tonic/liquid formulations, cosmetic products, painting, leather, paper, textile, etc. With a view to achieving economies of scale, enhance the raw material cost and improve the quality of sorbitol, a starch project of rated capacity 150 tpd was established in 1998. By the time of August 1998, a commercial production of strach powder had started. In the following year, the company was awarded an ISO 9002 certificate for its Sorbitol division. With an aim to further reduce the cost to manufacturing, the company is in the process of installing a coal-fired husk based boiler which is expected to be operational by the end of July 2000. Unfortunately, its networth has been completely eroded thus leading it to be referred to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction with IDBI being appointed as the operating agency.
