SBI Nifty Index Fund is a passive mutual fund that invests in all the companies that make up the Nifty 50 Index. This index represents India’s top 50 companies based on market capitalization. The fund allocates at least 95% of its total assets to these companies in the same proportion as the index, while the remaining 5% is invested in cash and money market instruments for liquidity purposes.
The fund tracks the Nifty 50 TRI as its benchmark. This index reflects the overall performance of the 50 companies, including any dividends paid out. By mirroring this index, the fund aims to deliver returns that are closely aligned with the broader market performance.
The fund managers do not try to outperform the index but rather aim to provide investors with a simple and efficient way to invest in India’s leading companies. Whenever there is a change in the composition of the index, the fund also rebalances its portfolio accordingly. Being a passively managed fund, it also benefits from a lower expense ratio, making it a cost-effective option for long-term investors.
Currently, the fund's portfolio comprises 0.0% small-cap stocks, 98.75% large-cap stocks, and 1.10% mid-cap stocks.
