Alibaba Group Holding Limited is a marketplace, a search engine, and a bank. Regarded as one of the world’s largest retailers and e-commerce companies, Alibaba Ltd. operates out of China. Alibaba is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets, with transaction value exceeding Amazon and eBay combined. Founded in 1999 by Jack Ma, who KFC once rejected, the company is omnichannel, i.e., Taobao, their largest website, offers consumer to consumer service to small entrepreneurs to offer their products. The business-to-business unit is handled by Alibaba.com, which handles transactions between importers and exporters from 240 countries. Other companies such as AliExpress, the shopping search engine, 1688.com, Alibaba Cloud, which offers cloud computing services, and Alipay offering electronic payment services, manage the business to consumer division. In September 2014, Alibaba came out with a public offering and made an initial public offering (IPO) for raising US$25 on the New York Stock Exchange, making it one of the largest IPO in world history. In January 2018, Alibaba reached the US$500 billion valuation mark and became the second Asian company to achieve this feat after its competitor Tencent. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. is currently valued at $323 Billion. The ADRs of the company are trading at $114.64. Currently Alibaba Group has a market cap of $223.78 Billion.
