About Uniroyal Marine Exports Ltd

Uniroyal Marine UML, founded in Aug.92, is involved in various business activities related to marine products, such as purchasing, processing, curing, canning, freezing, selling, exporting and dealing. UML set up a facility to process 135,000 tonnes of IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) and 4,200 tonnes of Block Frozen sea products, commercial operations commencing from March 1994. Majority of the exports are to China, Australia, Malaysia, USA, South Africa and other European countries. Adverse industry conditions, such as industry recession, depression in international market and high cost of raw material, put pressure on profits, while the ban of marine imports from India by the European Union in 1997 further increased UML's losses. To adapt to the situation, the company upgraded its plant and factory to meet EU standards, and EU export was restarted during 1998-99, resulting to in a turnaround of their margins. UML has now installed the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) system and complying with EU guidelines, has debonded from 100 EOU status to the Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme to avail of the Duty Entitlement Pass Book Scheme.
