Founded in Foster City, California, by Dee Hock, this American multinational specialises in global payments technology. Its primary aim is to promote digital currencies among consumers, businesses, banks, and governments. Having built its network across 200 countries and territories worldwide, it is a global leader in digital payments. The company offers three different types of cards: Debit cards, Credit cards, and Prepaid cards. It also partnered with Apple in 2014 to introduce a wallet feature to iPhones. The company has various products, such as Visa Electron, Visa Cash, Visa Contactless, mVisa, and VisaCheckout. The company trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol V.. In 1958, the company began a journey with Bank of America cards and expanded internationally by 1974. This was also the time it introduced the debit card. Later, it merged with regional businesses worldwide, namely Visa Canada, Visa International, and Visa USA, and all formed the publicly traded company, Visa Inc. The company's initial public offering in 2008 was one of the largest in the history of the USA. In 2015, the number of transactions reached 100 billion. It even acquired Visa Europe in 2016, creating itself a single global company. There are currently 3.6 billion Visa cards on the market with 206 billion payments transactions and more than 70 million merchant locations worldwide. As of 2020, the company had over 20,500 employees and annual revenue of around $21,000 million. The company operates transactions through four highly secure centres in Ashburn, Highlands Ranch, London, and Singapore. In 2021, the company also entered the cryptocurrency market and partnered with First Boulevard. In essence, it is a neobank designed to build generational wealth for the black community. The company also announced the acceptance of the coin USDC on its network. It aims to create a cross-border payments platform in India and is currently seeking the government's approval.
