Shopify, a Canadian multinational e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario was established by Scott Lake along with Tobias Lütke, in the year 2006. Shopify created Liquid, a completely open-source web-programming framework which works as a templated language that is written on the web app framework “Ruby on Rails”. It has been in use since 2006. In 2009, the company launched an API (Application programming interface) platform and an App Store. In 2010, a mobile app was introduced for free on the IOS App Store. In fact, the app enables Shopify outlet owners to monitor their stores via the iOS mobile applications. The company raised 7 million USD from a series A Venture Capitalist funding round in the year 2010, the second round of series B raised 15 USD million in the year 2011. In 2015, Shopify was listed on stock exchanges of New York, NYSE and Toronto, TSE by raising over 131 million USD . In the year 2021, Affirm’s IPO enabled Shopify’s 8% stake to be worth $2 billion. Later that year, it acquired Frenzy, a smart application that helps to improve flash sales and a studio for mobile product creation and development based in Toronto called Tiny Hearts. In 2017, they announced a partnership with Amazon which allowed traders to from their Shopify stores on Amazon platforms. To cater to the B2B segment, they acquired handshake which now caters to the B2B e-com platform to sell wholesale goods. 6 River systems which make warehouse robots was acquired in a cash and share deal worth 450 million USD. It also announced its partnership with Alipay to enable cross-border payments It announced the acquisition of Primer, an AR app that allows users to preview home improvement items digitally. Currently Shopify Inc. has a market cap of $68.42 Billion. It has a P.E ratio of -31.87. The shares of Shopify Inc. are trading at $51.51. .
