“Starbucks is a multinational coffee brand that offers various services worldwide. The CEO of the company is Kevin Johnson. It was established in the year 1971, in Seattle, USA. The company was started as a whole bean retailer and ground coffee, and other spices. Starbucks also has subsidiary brands such as Teavana, Shaya Coffee Limited, Seattle's best coffee, Evolution fresh, Torrefazione Italia LLC among many others. The company sells over 30 premium blends of coffee and other single-origin blends. Starbucks's trademark product is Frappuccino in the espresso category. It also sells beverages like frappes, mocktails, etc. Other products of Starbucks include salads, baked pastries, packaged goods, sandwiches, and yoghurt parfaits. Starbucks went public on NASDAQ in 1992. It is also a part of the S&P 500 and S&P 100 along with NASDAQ-100 as of 2000. The first venture of Starbucks was established in North America and Japan, after Singapore. In 2002, the company extended its branches in Germany, Greece, and Spain. After ten years, it established its business in Europe by opening new ventures in Norway, Finland, and Costa Rica. Starbucks was awarded Outstanding Corporate Innovator by PDMA (Product Development and Management Association) because of its innovative perspective in business strategy. It was then presented with the Best Adaptive Reuse Award by Historic Seattle for preserving the century-old building in Seattle. The company was also awarded as an Employer of Choice in 2018 in China. The Military Officers Association of America awarded Kevin Johnson (CEO OF Starbucks) the Distinguished Service Award. The best acquisition of Starbucks is Seattle Coffee Company for $72 million from AFC Enterprises Inc. After this, the company acquired Ethos Water for $8 million in 2015. Revenue

The revenue reported by Starbucks for the first quarter was $8.05 billion as compared to $6.75 billion in the year-ago period. Sequentially, the revenue declined from $8.15 billion. However, the revenue is higher than a street estimate of $7.98 billion.

International market

Starbucks saw weaker demand for its coffee in the international market (outside the US). International store sales fell 3%, dragged down by China’s sluggish performance. China, the second-largest market for the company, saw sales shrank by 14% in the quarter.

Profits

The company reported an earning of $815.9 million or 69 cents a share, up from $622.2 million, or 53 cents per share, a year earlier. Earning Per Share (excluding items) is lower than the street estimate of 80 cents per share and stood at 72 cents per share.

Despite staffing issues, the company reported US same-store sales growth of 18% from a year earlier and 12% on a two-year basis. Active 90-day users of its Starbucks Rewards program rose 21% to 26.4 million people.
