About Broadcom
Broadcom designs semiconductor products and supplies infrastructure software used by businesses and technology providers. Its chips support applications such as AI computing, networking, broadband connectivity, wireless communications and data storage.
The company also provides software for private cloud infrastructure, mainframes, security and other enterprise workloads, including VMware technologies. Broadcom's two reporting segments, Semiconductor Solutions and Infrastructure Software, combine physical components sold into electronic systems with software used to operate and manage business computing environments.
How Does Broadcom Make Money?
Broadcom makes money by selling semiconductors and charging customers for enterprise software licences, subscriptions and related support. Its customers include cloud providers, equipment manufacturers, communications companies and large enterprises.

Why the software payment model is different
Enterprise software can be sold through term subscriptions, licences and support arrangements. Customers pay for the right to use specified capabilities and, where included, receive updates and assistance. A software renewal can therefore generate another contract even when the customer's underlying computing hardware remains in place.
Where repeat business comes from
Chip customers order more components as they manufacture equipment or expand infrastructure. Software customers may renew agreements, add capacity or purchase additional capabilities. Broadcom consequently has several routes to further revenue, although a long-term customer relationship does not guarantee the size or timing of future purchases.
