About United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd

The United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd (UNITEA) is part of a 74 year old Chamraj group company producing a variety of tea leaves. There are four estates, Allada Valley (228.64 ha), Chamraj (148.06 ha), Devabetta (192.62 ha) and Korakundah (925.86 ha), all in South India boasting an installed capacity of 2,500 tonnes per annum (tpa). UNITEA produces about 2,000 tonnes and the remaining 25% is encouraged from the market. They have introduced Integrated Pest Management Systems, which utilises environment-friendly pest control materials, as a Research and Development programme in order to make the final product of tea more desirable in the international market. Despite a general decline in tea exports from India, UNITEA has been able to sustain their momentum and increase market development and product improvement activity.
