About Pennar Industries Ltd

Pennar Industries Ltd, founded by J Naresh Kumar in August 1975 and initially known as 'Pennar Steels', is a manufacturer of cold-rolled coils (CRCs) of widths up to 700mm, which are supplied to the automobile and white goods industries. 50% of the company's sales comes from the automobile sector, with clients such as Jay Bharat Maruti and Mahindra Mahindra, and Godrej Kelvinator and Voltas in the white goods sector. In 1988-90 the company began an expansion project to increase its capacity from 12000 to 60000 tonnes per annum (tpa), with the first phase increasing the capacity to 36000 tpa in 1991. In 1995, Pennar Industries acquired ISO 9002 certification from RWTUV Germany. Further, diversification of product mix happened in 1999-2000 when the company acquired manufacturing facilities in the cold forming section of Tube Investments of India Ltd at Tarapur and Chennai. By June 2001, over 50% of the net worth had been eroded, making Pennar Industries a 'sick industrial' company. In response, the company continued their efforts to increase the percentage of value-added products like cold formed metal profiles, engineering components, and road safety systems.
