Krishna Filaments Ltd (KFL) was incorporated in July 1988 under the name Orcays Rope Manufacturing Company and changed its name to KFL in September 1989. It came out with a premium public issue of equity shares in March 1994 to part finance a project to set up an export oriented unit (EOU) to manufacture 8-strand ropes at Nashik. KFL manufactures synthetic ropes made of polypropylene and high density poly ethylene, twine and nets made from the same raw material. It has entered into a technical collaboration with Daewoo Corporation, South Korea for equipment for its plant at Nashik. KFL also came out with a public issue of Optionally Fully Convertible Discounted Debentures in April 1997 to help fund the expansion project. This went from a capacity of 6900 TPA to 20000 TPA. During 1998-99 the capacity increased from Synthetic Ropes to 21000 MT and obtained Quality System Certification ISO 9002 during 2000. Despite this, the company suffered losses during 200001 and consequently gave a major lay off to its workers.
