About HPL Electric & Power Ltd

HPL Electric Power Limited is a well-established player in the electric equipment business in India. They offer a wide range of solutions in four major product segments – metering, switchgear, lighting and wire & cables. They hold significant market shares of 20% & 50% in energy meters and switchgear respectively. The company also maintains an extensive distribution network with over 27,000 retailers, 2,000 dealers and distributors all over the country. In order to increase competitive edge, HPL Electric Power Limited also has two Research & Development Centres and seven manufacturing facilities in two Indian states. They also boast of investment and 97.15% equity in Himachal Energy Private Limited which became the company’s subsidiary in 2016. June 2016, the company also went public with an issue worth 361 crores (over subscribed 9 times). During FY17, the company witnessed a dip in profitability due to the demonetization and lower number of tenders from electricity boards. Though HPL saw some improvement in FY18 (with 43% YoY order book rise and double break type MCCB and ATS 40125A success commercialization), there’s more headroom for growth and improved financial performance.
