Established in 1987 as a private limited company, Fredun Pharmaceuticals (FPL) was eventually transformed into a public limited company in 1994. Initially, the promoters had set up D N Pharma to manufacture and export pharmaceutical pharmaceutical formulations to Afghanistan, West Africa and other nearby countries. However, starting from 1993, the company shifted to FPL which focused on developing tablet, capsules, dry syrups and ointments. It commenced commercial production in August 1994 with loan and license from Cipla and Merind.

Consequently, FPL was approved to be listed on the stock exchange in April 1996, and decided to use the funding for international expansion, repaying term loans, and reducing interest burden. Furthermore, FPL is continually registering its products across various countries with the hopes of increasing its overall turnover and boosting export orders. Currently, FPL is successfully registering drugs in countries such as Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Sri Lanka.
