The company was launched in 2006, though founded in 2005. In 2008, Workday moved its headquarters from Walnut Creek, California to Pleasanton, California. In the same year, the company signed a contract with Flextronics to provide human capital management services.
Later, In 2012, the company launched its initial public offering. In 2014, the company acquired a startup named Identified, originally founded by Adeyemi Ajao, and named its Artificial Intelligence as Syman. The purpose behind the acquisition was to create a line of insight app products.
In 2021, Chano Fernandez became the co-CEO of the company, and Dave Duffield became the chairman of the board. In the same year, the company announced the acquisition of VNDLY.
