About Simplex Realty Ltd

Simplex Mills (SML) was incorporated in Nov.12 in Bombay to set up a composite textile manufacturing unit. It was initially managed by Allen Brothers Company Bombay and, in 1932, taken over by Forbes Campbell Company. In 1960 S R Damani assumed management, starting with the production and sale of unprocessed grey cloth and eventually expanding to shirtings, sarees, dress materials, etc. In 1974, Akola was chosen as the site for the company's second composite textile unit, specialized in the production of tyre cord fabric and grey canvas. Pursuing further diversification in 1981, SML set up a paper mill in Gondia, Maharashtra to manufacture writing and printing paper. This was followed by a public listing Sep.92 to enable the modernisation of the company. Restructuring in 2005 saw the demerging of Simplex's paper and textile divisions; the latter was transferred and vested to a new resulting company, Galaxy Garments Ltd, while the paper division was given to a new subsidiary,Simplex Paper & Pulp Limited. The installed capacity of Spindles and Looms has decreased to 27336 and 206 Nos, respectively, as of March 2001.
