About Pradeep Metals Ltd

Pradeep Metals (PM) was established in Jan.82 as a private limited company and later converted into a public limited company in 1993. The founder, V.P Goyal, aimed to produce closed die steel forgings with an initial capacity of 1200 tonnes per annum (tpa). Commercial production started in Jul.83 at Dombivli in Thane district, Maharashtra.In 1989-90 it increased the capacity to 2400 tonnes per annum (tpa) for forged components ranging from 500gm to 8kg, mainly used in the automobile industry. In 1994, a public issue to set up a 12,000 tpa unit for press forgings with precision parts ranging between 50gm and 40kg was released. Although expansion plans started in Oct.94, there were customs issues which delayed the process by 8 months. The plant at Dombivli, which operated with a hammer approach in forgings, closed in 2000 following the occurrence of major losses and low production. The company will complete the implementation of ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning) in Dec. 2001 and 19800 Optionally Convertible Cumulative Redeemable Preference Shares of Rs.100 each, worth Rs.1980000, were issued in 200001 to ICICI Ltd as part of a One-Time Settlement agreement. They had earlier made reference to BIFR, but no hearing has been conducted yet.
