About Kanpur Plastipack Ltd

Kanpur Plastipack is an Indian medium-sized manufacturer of woven sacks, founded by M. S. Agarwal in 1971. It has grown over the years and the company set up a plant at a cost of Rs 460 lakh to manufacture 1,425 tpa (tonnes per annum), which was later increased to 1,890 tpa. A public issue was launched in October 1986 to raise funds for the expansion of capacity from 1,890 to 3,755 tpa, and has clients such as IEL, IFFCO, FACT, JK Synthetics and Straw Products. In 1990, it started manufacturing paper lined plastic bags at its plant, but faced continuous losses due to adverse market conditions and the Jute Packing Control Order, leading to its classification as a potentially sick unit and brought under the purview of the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in 1991. A rehabilitation package was sanctioned by BIFR in July 1992, implemented by the company. During 19992000 it obtained an ISO 9002 Certification from Dutch Council for Certification RVC accredited by NQA Quality Systems Registrar Ltd.
