About Fermenta Biotech Ltd

DupharInterfran (DIL) was established by a technocrat, D V K Raju in 1951 as International Franchises Pvt Ltd. In the early years, the company manufactured and sold toothpaste, antiseptic lotion and pharmaceutical specialities on a loan licence basis, in collaboration with PhilipsDuphar Amsterdam Solvay Duphar and Crookes Laboratories London (participation up to 25% equity). The company changed its name to Crookes Interfran in 1963 and to DupharInterfran in 1971. In 1976, collaborations with Solvay Duphar for manufacturing Vitamin D3 and Isoxypurine hydrochloride, with 38.86% foreign stake, came up. In 1995, DIL launched a rights issue to increase long-term resources and working capital and sold two popular brands - Crocin and LactoCalamine lotion - to Smithkline Beecham Pharmaceuticals and Nicholas Piramal respectively to concentrate on the core business of ethical drugs. As per the Scheme of Arrangement, the pharma business of the company was also transferred to a new entity called Duphar Pharma India and investments in unutilised premises at Thane for a commercial complex with modern facilities were also made. In 2003, the Company expanded manufacturing capacity for Vitamin D and other products like Phenyramidol in Kullu. In 2010, the company signed a contract with Solvay Pharmaceuticals B V in Netherlands and acquired 990000 equity shares of Rs.10 each from Fermenta Biotech Ltd, making it a subsidiary. In 2012, the company launched Penicillin G Acylase catalyst Fermase PA 850 and successful entries of Annual Contract with Solvay Pharmaceuticals B V, a vasodilator. Since then, the company has launched new and improved products - fish oil derived cholesterol for the aquaculture market, Vitamin D 500 feed grade powder in 2020, Vitamin AD2 for oil fortification, and patented technology for enzymatic synthesis of Molnupiravir in 2021. It also established subsidiaries in Mauritius, Germany, and USA. The company changed its name from DIL Limited to Fermenta Biotech Limited (FBL) in 2019.
