Read MoreSnap Inc., originally Snapchat Inc., a “multimedia instant messaging” app company based in America, was launched in the year 2011. The company was established by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University. The company focussed on usability, aesthetics, and technical aspects instead of branding and marketing. A key feature of this app is that messages and pictures are visible for only a brief period, after which they disappear and become inaccessible to the recipients. It has been a pioneer in representing a new direction in social media where the emphasis is on users interacting with AR (augmented reality) items such as virtual stickers. In July 2021, the company had approximately 293 million active daily users; it recorded a 23% increase in terms of active users over the previous year. This messaging platform handles an average of 4 billion snaps exchanged among its users. The app has evolved since its original model of focusing on person-to-person photo sharing to featuring users’ “stories” for 24 hours of chronological content, along with “Discover” which lets brands showcase ad-supported short format content. The app supports 37 languages and content in the form of photo sharing, instant messaging, video chat, and multimedia. Users are allowed to design their own geofilters for personal events for $10-15 per hour or an annual subscription of $1,000 -10,000 depending upon the type of filter and geography. In 2020, Snap launched “minis”, which are embeddable apps that live inside the parent Snap app. They have also collaborated with TikTok influencers to launch AR lenses to enhance the interactive experience for users. Currently Snap Inc. has a market cap of $14.54 Billion. It has a P.E ratio of -10.99. The shares of Snap Inc. are trading at $10.9. .
