Fred Smith founded FedEx in 1971, revolutionising the delivery business by providing overnight deliveries. Formerly known as Federal Express Corporation and FDX Corporation, FedEx is a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The industry leader of transportation and e-commerce services, FedEx was the inventor of express distribution, offering reliable and swift delivery to over 220 countries. It covered markets that made up 99% of the world’s GSP within one to three business days. With cutting-edge technology and sound transportation infrastructure, including air routes, FedEx fulfils more than 3.6 million shipments each day. FedEx is in partnership with United States Postal Services(USPS) to provide hybrid postal services, making USPS the largest customer of FedEx. FedEx Corp is the holding company with the segments like Express, Logistics, Ground, Freight, Services, and more with the prefix FedEx, spread across the transportation, e-commerce and business services industries. FedEx Express caters to domestic and international shipping services. FedEx Ground is for ground delivery services of smaller packages. FedEx Feight covers general freight services. The FedEx Logistics segment provides integrated supply chain management solutions. FedEx Corp’s central hub is in Memphis International Airport, which is also the busiest cargo airport in the world. FedEx acquired a popular e-commerce platform named ShopRunner in December 2020. FedEx Corp is said to be the first customer of General Motor’s electric delivery vans, the EV600, as part of their goal of having an all-electric ground fleet by 2040.
