Wim Plast Ltd (WPL) was established by the Cello and M G Shah groups as a private limited company in October 1988. In July 1993, they converted it into a public limited company and went public in August 1994 to finance a project worth Rs 10.85 Crore to manufacture 2020 TPA of injection moulded plastic furniture, including chairs and tables. The products are the latest and contemporary European designs with features such as vivid colour combinations, ergonomic design, lightweight yet termite-resistant, low maintenance and up to 60% cheaper than other wooden furniture. WPL markets their products under the well-established Cello brand name and has received an encouraging response. They have further increased their installed capacity from 7810 MT to 11489 MT, by importing extra machinery and moulds from Italy, India and abroad. The company has also started their third unit in Daman in December 1999 and will soon be starting a joint venture company in Bangladesh.
