JCT was founded in 1946 and renamed in 1989, owned by M M Thaper- the chairman and managing director. It is engaged in multiple sectors, such as textiles, filament yarn, steel and export trading and with subsidiaries: Gupta Syal Chohal Investments, Poly Investments and JCT Fibres. In 1980-81, JCT set up a nylon6 filament yarn plant in Hoshiapur, Punjab in collaboration with Zimmers, Germany. The company also collaborated with E I Dupont US to set up a PSF plant. In 1990, Sterling Steels and Wires and Kidarnath Kishanchand P Ltd were amalgamated with JCT, and in 1999 the installed capacity for various activities was increased to 9000 tonnes, 6000 tonnes, 13500 tonnes, 45000 tonnes, 3000 tonnes, 9000 tonnes, 75000 tonnes, 16500 tonnes, and 1694 nos respectively. In 1998, a slump sale agreement was made between JCT and Polysindo Group, Indonesia for the sale and hiveoff of its synthetic fibre business. JCT also commissioned a Wire Rope plant in the same year. In 1999, 120 NMM looms at Phargwara unit of the textile division were replaced with 22 Airjet looms; this will significantly reduce cost of production and enhance quality of fabric.
