Baroda Rayon Corporation (BRCL) was established in 1958 and led by the former Maharaja of Baroda, Sangramsinh Gaekwad. It is a diversified company producing products such as viscose filament rayon yarn, sulphuric acid, carbon disulphide, anhydrous sodium sulphate, nylon tyre cord, and sold under the brand name Snialon. In 1973, BRCL acquired the nylon yarn plant from Gujarat Polymers and in 1981 entered a technical collaboration agreement with Unitika Japan to manufacture nylon tyre cord. In the period 1988-91, BRCL increased the capacity of its nylon tyre cord from 2000 tpa to 4000 tpa. In 1991, it launched a technical collaboration with Samsung Company South Korea to expand its polyester filament yarn (PFY) production from 1777 tpa to 10797 tpa. In 1995, it further expanded the partially oriented yarn (POY) plant capacity to 15000 tpa. BRCL is currently working on a backward integration project to produce polyester chips and build a solid waste recovery plant. To fund these projects, BRCL released a rights issue of Rs 15.87 crore at a premium in February 1997.
